WOW
General Information

What WOW is to New Students?

Discovery. Connections. Adventure. WOW.
The Week of Welcome program, also known as WOW, is a week-long orientation event. It is a
balanced combination of excitement, learning, and new experiences. As a new student to Cal
Poly, either a first-year or transfer student, you will participate in activities, events and
presentations introducing you to the campus and community. WOW provides a thrilling environment
for you to meet new people, become familiar with Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo, and prepare to
start your college career.
As a new student, you will be placed in a group of about 10-20 other new students led by two
current Cal Poly student Orientation Leaders. Your WOW group will participate in an array of
orientation events in addition to activities both on- and off-campus planned by your
Orientation Leaders.
This is one Cal Poly experience you do not want to miss!
Dates

WOW 2009 is scheduled for
Tuesday, Sept 15 - Saturday, Sept 19, 2009.
More
information, including reservations, will be available soon.
Fee information

$190 for students, $215 after September 4, 2009
PLEASE NOTE:
These amounts do not include the convenience fee of 2.9% if you choose to pay online via credit card.
In addition, during the Week of Welcome, new students will be asked by their Orientation Leaders to
pay up to an additional $25. This additional payment is NOT covered in the WOW Student Fee, so please
keep this in mind when making your WOW reservations. This extra money will be used for excursions such
as kayaking, hot tubbing, eating off-campus, reimbursement for gas, etc. These activities provide an
additional way for students to orient themselves with the community and bond with the other members of
their WOW groups. These additional group activities are optional and new students do not have to participate
if they do not wish to do so.
Student Orientation Fee: Includes program materials, WOW sponsored activities, and also supports training and programming for our 700+ volunteer Orientation Leaders.
