downtown scavenger hunt, and receive lots of free goodies
and coupons from participating businesses.
Your Vote, Your Voice Registration Drive
WOW's Voter Registration Drive combines with SLO Bound to
raise community consciousness and emphasize the importance
of voter participation to incoming students. A historically

PREFACE Shared Reading Program
All WOW leaders and new students participate in a book discussion with
trained volunteer discussion facilitators. This discussion provides a learning
experience for the new students similar to a discussion in a college class. The novel
selected for PREFACE 2007 is Montana 1948 by Larry Watson. For more information,
visit: www.preface.calpoly.edu.
College Connections: Academic Success

Coping with Stress Awareness Presentations
Friday concludes the Awareness programming for the week with
an important wrap-up presentation, Coping with Stress.
Stress is a natural part of college life that every student
will experience in various levels throughout his or her time
at Cal Poly. Students will have the opportunity to explore
their personal stressors, learn about resources available to
them, and find comfort in the commonalities Cal Poly
students share.
Day of Service
In conjunction with Cal Poly Student Community Services, WOW
has implemented a Day of Service within the community. More
than 70 WOW groups (approximately 700-1100 students) have
volunteered to groom local garden projects, collect canned
food for needy populations and provide staffing at local
programs. This day will provide an invaluable service to the
community and begin to enrich the college careers of the new
students by showing them how they can make a difference
while at Cal Poly.
WOW Block Party & Concert
Over 100 student-run clubs and organizations join forces
with Student Life and Leadership, ASI and Campus Dining to
take over the main street on campus with information booths,
club performances, dinner, games, give-aways and live music
in the WOW Block Party! The event culminates with a
headliner concert, exclusively for WOW participants.

Police Department and Academic Skills Center.

WOW sponsors several evening activities during the week,

Other Group Activities
New students will be asked for additional money by their
group leaders for other activities and excursions they have
planned during the week. These activities may include
kayaking, bonfires, movies, or meals off-campus, just to
name a few! This extra money is not to exceed $25.
Note: During the Week of Welcome, new students will
be asked by their Orientation Leaders to pay up to an
additional $25. This additional payment is NOT covered in
the WOW Student Fee, so please keep this in mind when making
your WOW reservations. This extra money will be used for
