SOAR: Student Orientation, Advising & Resources
Home

What is SOAR?

Cal Poly would like to extend an invitation to you to attend Student Orientation, Advising & Resources (SOAR). SOAR is a one-day academic advising and class scheduling program to assist you in preparing for Fall Quarter. Cal Poly is committed to your academic and personal success at the university. You can prepare for this success by enrolling in the right classes your first quarter. By working together, we can develop a schedule that will get you off to a good start. SOAR takes place during the month of July and you will be invited by your respective academic college to attend on a specific date. Additional information (fees, schedules, and reservation information) will be available at this website as it becomes available.

Before attending SOAR, visit our OnLine Advising (OLA) Website available here by the end of June. OLA is a supplemental tool designed to assist you as you plan your Fall Quarter classes. Use this site in preparation for your SOAR day on campus, and refer to it after that day to refresh your memory and get clarification on outstanding issues.

Why Attend?
At SOAR you will plan your fall class schedule based upon accurate information from your placement scores and with assistance from student, staff and faculty advisors. In addition, you will have the opportunity to interact with your future classmates and begin developing friendships you will enjoy throughout your Cal Poly career. Advising is a critical factor in your academic success here at Cal Poly, and the SOAR Program is an important first step in understanding your college's advising system.

Parent Orientation
SOAR includes a parent component, which includes materials, lunch and programming. Be sure to note that when you make a reservation with your student. The primary purpose of this program is to let you know as much as possible about Cal Poly so you will be in a better position to encourage and support your student during his or her time on campus. Additional guest lunch tickets may be purchased. We hope to see you in July at SOAR!
