Another Type Of Groove
The mission of Another Type of Groove: Spoken Word Poetry is to create open space for the interchange of ideas, beliefs, and personal expression.
Through this exchange and dialogue, students can create respect for themselves as well as individuals of their community.
Another Type of Groove strives to build an authentic sense of community throughout the Cal Poly student body by generating
knowledge about the uniqueness of individuals and the cultures from which they come.

PolyCultural Weekend
PolyCultural Weekend takes place during the Spring quarter. Cultural clubs come together
to host high school seniors and transfer students who have been
conditionally accepted to Cal Poly.
The weekend activities include a parents welcome, where campus resources representatives offer
information on services, a student welcome where prospective students are
greeted by college and department advisors and administrators, and interactions
with current Cal Poly students of color. This weekend helps the incoming class
determine if Cal Poly is the right school for them while having fun, living on
campus with a student host, providing a "home away from home" environment and
life-long connection to the community.

Cross Cultural Meetings
The Cross-Cultural Meetings
are quarterly diversity education initiatives focused on leadership development
from a multicultural perspective. The quarterly seminars create a more proactive approach to sustain and promote
a supportive campus climate where all students feel welcomed. They encourage
students to build effective alliances across cultures, promote positive change,
and translate the dialogue into action.
