Community Center
Cal Poly Alternative Breaks Program
Alternative Breaks is a program of Student Life & Leadership, providing students with a chance to make a
difference during their breaks.
International or domestic service trips occur every summer, spring, and winter break. Alternative Breaks provides
Cal Poly students the opportunity to serve their global community while exploring outside their positions of privilege.
Details of each trip vary, but typically involve humanitarian aid such as: tutoring disadvantaged children, animal rescue,
homeless shelter and food bank support, disaster relief, and habitat restoration.
All trips include a pre-trip orientation workshop,
a pre-educational workshop, evening group reflections, free time in the evenings to explore area,
help with travel arrangements, and a post-trip dinner. All trips are lead by Cal Poly students or staff. If you would like
to create an Alternative Breaks experience contact the program coordinator anytime.
